Hans Katan
Hilversum, 9 augustus 1919 - Overveen, 1 oktober 1943

(English translation:)

From late 1940 on, biology student Hans Katan was a member of the editorial board of the illegal student magazine De Vrije Katheder. In 1942 he became one of the first members of the Amsterdam resistance group CS-6. Katan took part in attacks on railroads, and was involved in several acts of sabotage, liquidations, and also helped prepare an attempt to assassinate NSB leader Mussert. A poet friend of his described him as 'a tremendously brave young guy, who recoiled from no act of resistance'.

After his arrest in the summer of 1943, Katan was convicted, along with eighteen other members of the CS-6, after a more than ten-hour long hearing. The next day they were executed in the dunes near Overveen. Hans Katan is buried on the Bloemendaal Memorial Cemetery.
