1. African Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday School Union Marker
Inscription. One of the last remaining buildings on the Square, 206 Public Square was home to the African Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday School Union beginning in 1886, when Rev. Charles S. Smith purchased the building. The A.M.E. Sunday School Union, established in 1882 was first to publish Sunday School literature by African Americans. The building was demolished in 1978 for the construction of the Criminal Justice Center.
