Kunstenaar Willem Arondeus was lid van de Raad van Verzet, vervalste persoonsbewijzen en schreef de verzetskrant de Brandarisbrief.
Om te voorkomen dat de Duitsers gemakkelijk Joodse inwoners konden opsporen, deed hij mee met de aanslag op het Bevolkings- register op 27 maart 1943. Enkele dagen later werd hij, samen met andere verzetslieden, opgepakt en na een proces geλxecuteerd.
Arondeus kwam openlijk uit voor zijn homoseksualiteit en deed zijn advocaat voor zijn executie een laatste verzoek: 'Zeg de mensen dat homoseksuelen niet per definitie zwakkelingen zijn'.
Hij ontving postuum het Verzetsherdenkingskruis en de Yad Vashem-onderscheiding van de staat Israλl als Rechtvaardige onder de Volkeren.
Artist Willem Arondeus was a member of the Resistance Council, forged identity cards and wrote the resistance newspaper De Brandarisbrief. To prevent the Germans from easily tracking down Jewish residents, he took part in the attack on the Population Register on March 27, 1943. A few days later, he was arrested, along with other members of the resistance, and executed after a trial. Arondeus openly admitted his homosexuality and made one last request to his lawyer before his execution: "Tell the people that homosexuals are not necessarily weaklings." He was posthumously awarded the Resistance Cross and the Yad Vashem Award from the State of Israel as Righteous Among the Nations.

Excerpt: Willem Arondeus (22 August 1894 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo.
