Inscription. The Centennial Exposition was a celebration of progress of all kinds. One evidence of social progress was the Negro Building, noted for its Spanish Renaissance style of architecture with a unique roof top garden set amidst a red roof. Inside, "work of the hands and of the brain was in evidence on every side, and all well worth study." The Women's Building and the Children's Building, built with funds raised by their respective constituencies, also highlighted elements of society that had generally been ignored in the past.
