1. The First Presbyterian Church of Granville.
The First Presbyterian Church of Granville is one of the oldest churches in Ohio. The founding settlers of Granville organized a church before they left Granville, Massachusetts, in 1805. They chose to move onward in search of something more, something better. Their first tasks on arrival were to build a meeting house and to find a minister. Inspired by the Second Great Awakening, these settlers saw themselves as part of a great missionary movement. This spirit has shaped the history of the church and the village since the founding.(Submitted on September 21, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
2. First Presbyterian Church of Granville announces Aug. 15 return to sanctuary.
(The Sentinel, USA Today Network, Aug. 3, 2021) Renovating a church that was built in 1861 has not been without its interesting discoveries. In their initial assessment, Derwacter & Associates found that the roof design relied on compression (roof load), iron rods and the brick sidewalls of the church building to maintain the integrity of the structure. Another surprise was discovered when the old plaster was removed from the walls, revealing the chimney of one of the many fireplaces that used to line the sanctuary walls for heat.(Submitted on September 21, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
