Remembering A Friend
I lost a friend today…a firefighter
He was the brother, the father, the uncle who gave
She was the mother, the aunt, the neighbor who listened
He was someone's love; she was someone's life
Indeed, I lost a friend today
They lived the unknown for the risks were great
They forged ahead without thought of self
To save a life; to rescue a victim
What greater gift can the world receive?
I won't dwell upon that sad Fall day
Instead I'll remember what each one gave
My heart is consoled and my memories vivid; those who have left are etched within; for the one who
fights fire is a special kind;
Oh yes, I lost a friend today
A firefighter…a true American
In memory of the brave dedicated firefighters and emergency medical technicians who gave their lives at the World Trade Center…
In memory of our fallen heroes
