Mr. Maurits Kann

(English translation:)

Before the war, lawyer and journalist Maurits Kann contributed to publications of the Committee of Vigilance, which warned against threats to freedom from National Socialism. He was director of the Groene Amsterdammer and a co-founder of the resistance newspaper Het Parool, having also given the latter its name.

Kann was active in the Ordedienst (OD), a large secret anti-German organization. He also tried to contact London, where the Dutch government and the Queen stayed during the war, via the radio station.

At the end of May 1941 he was arrested by the Germans and sentenced to death during one of the OD trials.
