Anton Struik
Thomas Antonie Struik
Rotterdam, 8 april 1897 - Lόbecker Bocht, 3 mei 1945
Thomas Antonie Struik was an engineer and leader of the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN). He was editor-in-chief of party magazine De Tribune and chief editor of its successor Het Volksdagblad. The CPN was banned after the German invasion. Struik continued his work underground.
On 20 May 1941 he was arrested and ended up in the Neuengamme concentration camp via the Schoorl and Amersfoort camps. Even in captivity Struik remained the mainstay of party members and dissenters.
The camp was evacuated in April 1945. The prisoners were housed on ships. The ship that Struik was on was unintentionally bombed by the British. He was killed just before the end of the war.
