Excerpt (in translation): "The Gare du Nord, like the other Parisian stations, was held until the last minute by the occupying troops. It was a question of preserving an ultimate way of retreat. Its garrison, made up of Wehrmacht soldiers and Reichbahnof agents, patrolled the adjacent streets, arresting passers-by and FFIs, and carrying out summary executions. Until August 25 it was particularly dangerous to approach the station. Numerous were the victims."
