1. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral Marker
Inscription. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral is named for John Wesley (1703-1981), founder of Methodism and one of the great theologians and critical thinkers in the history of Christianity. The basic structure of the Quadrilateral begins with Scripture and Wesley's emphasis on the primacy of Scripture as the foundation for our knowledge of God. Wesley then emphasizes the importance of human reason as God's intention that Christianity be reasonable and worthy of respect, the importance of tradition in demonstrating the way in which the great saints of the church provide guidance for our life today, and the dual importance of understanding our individual and corporate experiences of God. Together, Scripture. Reason, Tradition and Experience work to provide the theological framework we need to live a meaningful and Godly life as humans.
