Inscription. This plaza is dedicated to the memory of Gary A. Cleveland, Production Director for the Athens Banner-Herald from 1980-2009. He started his career with the newspaper in 1969. Cleveland led the newspaper's transition from cold-type production to computerized pagination and printing in the late 1990s. He also guided the newspaper's move from a cramped outdated building in 1988 to an interim site, then eventual relocation to this state-of-art facility in 1992, an accomplishment he claimed was his most challenging and rewarding.
