Regarding Samuel R. Weed House. Excerpt from "'Sprits' give haunted tours of Newburgh" by Jackie Sheckler, The Herald Times, posted Oct. 24, 1999:
At the Samuel Weed House, we meet the owner's maid, Ann, sweeping the sidewalk. Pausing in her task, "Ann" relates the tale of "Marryin'" Polly Castle. Her nine marriages have made her a Newburgh legend — as have rumors about the untimely demise of a couple husbands. Three days after Christmas in 1900, Ann recounts, one of Marryin' Polly's husbands was found drowned in the kitchen cistern. "He had flat irons tied to his feet," she confides.
