Louis Cornelis Dijkman
Amsterdam, 5 augustus 1919 - Vught, 9 augustus 1944
Louis Dijkman was just twenty-five years old when he was executed. The law student had the alias of "Wiet"(lit. "Weed") and was engaged to a sister of Wim Speelman. Both men were active at the resistance magazine Vrij Nederland and later at Trouw. After graduating and becoming a lawyer, Dijkman became the head of the Trouw organization. At the end of 1943 the Sicherheitsdienst, the intelligence service of the Nazis, raided their base ofoperations on Ruysdaelstraat. Dijkman was shot and seriously injured. In 1944, on his birthday, he was together with twenty-four co-distributors and fifteen printers of the newspaper sentenced to death, unless Trouw would cease operations. Speelman said he would not capitulate to the German ultimatum. Trouw would go on. Dijkman was on that same day killed by a firing squad.
