Titus Willem de Tourton Bruijns
Teteringen, 14 mei 1898 - Buchenwald, 6 april 1943

(English translation:)

Titus de Tourton Bruijns was Inspector of Domains and one of the founders of the Legion of Old Front Fighters (LOF), one of the earliest resistance organizations in the Netherlands. The LOF was a 'shadow army' opposing the German occupier, originating in military circles. In 1941 it was merged into the Ordedienst (OD).

After his arrest, he ended up in Buchenwald via the "Orange Hotel", the prison in Scheveningen. There he was forced into extremely hard labour, as part of 'Vernichtung durch Arbeit' ("destruction through labor"), suffering sadistic abuse and lacking in food and medical care.

De Tourton Bruijns succumbed to these hardships at the age of 44. He was posthumously awarded the Resistance Cross.
