The Garrison Settlement / l’Établissement de la Garnison
— The Garrison Settlement at Gananoque ca: 1815/16 —
This blockhouse was completed in March, 1813 and held a strategic position overlooking the reconstructed bridge and the main harbour area. It was garrisoned continuously for the duration of the war and required other military infrastructure and constant provisioning, which in turn spurred a rapid growth and prosperity in the community.
Ce blockhaus fut terminé en mars 1813, et occupait un emplacement stratégique, surplombant le pont reconstruit et la région du port principal. Il fut protégé par une garnison en permanence pendant la durée de la guerre, et nécessita l'établissement d'infrastructures militaires et un approvisionnement constant, ce qui a suscité en retour une croissance rapide et la prospérité de la communauté.
