1. Dudley Park Marker
Inscription. Dudley Park was named to honor Mr. A.J. Dudley, who worked in the Climax Hosiery Mill as a sweeper (like the boy in the picture below). Later, Mr. Dudley became the mill owner.

Mr. Dudley was a self-made man who prospered as the mill owner, buying into the Climax hosiery mill and eventually becoming president of the Athens Manufacturing Company when Climax obtained the controlling shares of that venerable Athens institution. he also served as Mayor of Athens from 1926 to 1935 and again from 1938 to 1939. After his death in n1947, the building was sold to Chicopee Mills, a division of Johnson and Johnson.
