Excerpt (in translation): "The scientific bookstore Gastl in the old town was founded in 1949. Its focus was on theology, philosophy and sociology....After the war, at the turn of the year 1949/50, the bookseller Julie Gastl (1908-1999) together with Gudrun Schaal (1917-2007), founded the Gastl bookshop. Fräulein Gastl, as she wanted to be called herself, had learned from Osiander and ran their business at Neue Straße 8 for years. After the purchase of the house at Pfleghofstraße 1 in 1956, the bookshop expanded from the small laundry acceptance shop into the large taproom of the Café Kommerell on the first floor. The room for theology there became a meeting point for the Tübingen spiritual world. Julie Gastl's conversations with Ernst Bloch, Hans Mayer and Walter Jens were almost legendary. The bookseller celebrated her 90th birthday in 1998."(Submitted on October 11, 2022.)
