Frederik Johannes Marcus Ox
Amsterdam, 3 mei 1920 - Amsterdam, 15 juli 1944

(English translation:)

Freek Ox was a lathe operator at the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM) (Netherlands Dock and Shipbuilding Company). In early 1941 he distributed pamphlets to his colleagues, calling on them to take part in the February Strike. As a communist in hiding, he worked on the illegal newspaper De Waarheid ("The Truth"). He was also involved in various resistance activities in Amsterdam, Leiden and Almelo, including the liquidation of informants from the Sicherheitspolizei.

Freek Ox was arrested on 15 July 1944 during an attempt to assassinate a German officer. While trying to escape, he was shot dead in a firefight with the Germans.
