Freek Ox was metaaldraaier bij de Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM). Begin 1941 verspreidde hij pamfletten onder zijn collega's en riep hen op deel te nemen aan de Februaristaking. Als ondergedoken communist werkte hij mee aan de illegale krant De Waarheid. Ook was hij in Amsterdam, Leiden en Almelo betrokken bij diverse verzetsactiviteiten waaronder het liquideren van informanten van de Sicherheitspolizei.

Bij een liquidatiepoging op een Duitse officier werd Freek Ox op 15 juli 1944 gearresteerd. Tijdens een vluchtpoging werd hij in een vuurgevecht met de Duitsers doodgeschoten.

Freek Ox was a lathe operator at the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM) (Netherlands Dock and Shipbuilding Company). In early 1941 he distributed pamphlets to his colleagues, calling on them to take part in the February Strike. As a communist in hiding, he worked on the illegal newspaper De Waarheid ("The Truth"). Freek Ox was arrested on 15 July 1944 during an attempt to assassinate a German officer. While trying to escape, he was shot dead in a firefight with the Germans.
