Bobby Ray was born February 14, 1945, in McMinnville, Tennessee.

Hospital Corpsman Second Class, U.S. Navy, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine, 1st Marine Division, Quang Nam Province, Republic of Vietnam.
Died in Action March 19, 1969.
HM2 Corpsman Ray was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for gallantry above and beyond the call of duty while serving his country. At risk of his own life, undaunted by intense hostile fire, and severely wounded himself, he refused medical aid in order to continue bandaging a wounded Marine. Corpsman Ray was forced to battle two enemy soldiers personally, killing one and wounding the other. After running out of ammunition, he was fatally wounded. his final act of heroism was to throw himself upon his patient when an enemy grenade exploded nearby, thus saving his patient's life.
David Robert "Bobby" Ray will be remembered for his determined actions, courageous spirit, and selfish devotion to the welfare of his comrades.
