1. Old Bethel M.E. Church Marker
Inscription. In 1978 this building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is still used for special services. The original log church was constructed by the Rev. John Collins in 1805. In the year 1816 the framework of the present church was erected. Later in 1867, more renovations were completed.

In 1875 the Old Bethel N.E. Church Historical Society was formed to preserve and maintain the church. In the adjacent cemetery, maintained by the Tate Township trustees are buried many of the area’s original settlers. Among them were John and Sarah Simpson, the grandparents of President U.S. Grant, and also the Rev. John Collins and his family./
