Inscription.
Jefferson Street Music Scene. . Music is the backbone of Jefferson Street, and during the 1940's, 50's and 60's it became a thriving mecca for the R&B scene. Everything from speakeasies to grand nightclubs, supper clubs, and dancehall were interspersed with elegant cafes, ice cream parlors, and the Ritz Theater. Nightlife landmarks such as Good Jelly's Club, Club Del Morocco, Club Revillot, New Era, and Club Baron played host to the likes of Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Little Richard, and Etta James, as well as notable local musicians. The music and culture of the historic Jefferson Street thoroughfare lives today through live music venues and an annual jazz and blues festival.
