Jan Hendrik van Gilse
Mόnchen, 5 juni 1912 - Den Haag, 28 maart 1944
When Hitler took office in 1933, the Van Gilse family definitively chose the Netherlands. Both father Jan and his sons Jan Hendrik (Janrik) and Maarten. (Mik) joined the resistance. Janrik was an advertising artist by profession and a member of the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN). After his return from the Spanish Civil War, he was commissioned by the CPN to organize the military resistance in the Netherlands. Van Gilse was in charge of De Mil, an armed resistance group that merged into the Council of Resistance in 1943. He was involved in attacks. and raids. During a meeting in The Hague, many resistance members fell into a trap of the Sicherheitsdienst, the Nazi intelligence service. Van Gilse quickly fled, but was shot and died of his injuries.
