Wim Speelman
Sellingen, 20 januari 1919 - Halfweg, 17 februari 1945
Student Wim Speelman was in the resistance from the first day of occupation. He played an important role in the illegal newspaper Vrij Nederland. After betrayal he was arrested in late 1942. Speelman knew that the hacksaw that he had hidden in the sole of his shoe was his chance of escape. He was driven by his resistance work and directed the illegal publication Trouw, which was printed by Jan Bakker.
After the interrogation of a resistance member, the Security Police raided the printing house in early 1945. Everyone was arrested, including Speelman. On February 17, at age 26, he was executed at Halfweg. After the war he was reburied at the Bloemendaal Memorial Cemetery.
