1. Liberty Tree Marker
Inscription. During the American Revolution in 1776, patriots held secret meetings to debate the issues of the day. These meetings were frequently held under the branches of large oak trees called liberty trees. It was there that liberty was born, and where patriots pledged "our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor" to the ideals of freedom. May the strong and long-lived oak tree be a symbol of the American people and of the freedoms that we enjoy. May neither time nor foreign intervention ever take away our native birthright to be free and independent.
