1842 Union University is chartered.

Early 1850 Burton family constructs "Bellwood” house above Mürfree Spring. The second owner, James Avent, later establishes Stones River Creamery at the spring.

1851 First Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad train arrives in Murfreesboro on July 4 th. Soule College for women is established.

1854 Cedar Bucket Factory opens.

1855 Rio Mills, a textile manufacturing business, opens.

1859 New Rutherford County Courthouse is built.
