1. Medal of Honor Garden Marker
Inscription. This garden is dedicated to the Sioux Falls and regional recipients of the Medal of Honor. The president, in the name of Congress, has awarded more than 3,400 Medals of Honor to our nation's bravest soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen for heroic actions in the nation's battles since the decoration's permanent creation in 1863. Each Medal of Honor recipient from South Dakota has a permanent marker dedicated by the state in their hometown or in another location of the recipient's choice. This garden serves as the location for the state of South Dakota's marker dedicated to Sioux Falls native and former governor Joe Foss. Regional recipients recognized within this garden have individual markers that are duplicates of the original citations issued by Congress.
