Inscription. Originally named the Faculty Building, St. Francis Xavier Hall was the first building opened by President Joseph Sullivan, S.J. at Loyola University's new Del Rey campus in 1929. It was later named in honor of St. Francis Xavier, S.J. one of the first companions of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. From 1929 to 1999, it housed the university Jesuit Community.
