Inscription. In 1902, industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie offered the City of New Brunswick $50,000 for a new library building. The next year, in November 1903, the building opened to the public. George K. Parsells was the architect who designed and created this Beaux-Arts style building replete with a sculptured limestone pediment, Ionic columns, and an atrium with a stained glass ceiling originally lit through a skylight. An addition opened in 1990 substantially expanding the facility.
