1. Winants Hall Marker
Inscription. Designed in 1890 by architect Van Campen Taylor, a member of the Class of 1867. Winants Hall was Rutgers' first dormitory. It is named for Garret E. Winants, a college trustee and philanthropist who donated $75,000 for its construction. In the late 1940s, the building was converted to administrative offices. In 1990, a century after its construction, Winants Hall was rededicated following a $9.4 million restoration during which unique elements of the original building were restored and reinstalled, including the central staircase, lobby floor, fireplaces, and leaded glass windows.

Erected by City of New Brunswick, New Jersey.
