1. Pearl High Athletics Marker
Inscription. Pearl High was one of the first African American high schools in the state of Tennessee and was at the heart of Nashville's black community. Among the schools many distractions were its athletic achievements in football and men's and women's basketball. In 1966, the Tigers men's basketball team made history by going 21-0 and winning the TSSAA championship, becoming the first African American team in the state to win the title. More than an athletic triumph, it was the vindication of the whole Pearl community when given the opportunity to complete on a broader and fairer playing field.
