Inscription. I.T. Creswell was a Fisk University graduate and spent his entire adult life as a Nashville resident. He was an entrepreneur, activist, motivator, and dreamer. He was dedicated to inspiring young people and creating better opportunities for all during Nashville's segregated past. Mr. Creswell served sixteen years on the Board of Education and became the first African American to be appointed chairperson. During his service, he was instrumental in providing equality in instruction and resources for all public school children.
