1. John W. Work III Marker
Inscription. John Wesley Work III began his musical training at The Fisk University Laboratory School, attended Fisk High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fisk University in 1923. After graduating, he attended the Institute of Musical Arts in New York City (now the Juilliard School of Music). Work was a gifted composer, educator, choral director, and ethnomusicologist. He spent more than 30 years at Fisk University, serving in a variety of positions, most notably as a teacher, chairman of the Fisk University Department of Music and director of the Fisk Jubilee Singers from 1947-1956.
