1. Richard Henry Boyd Marker
Inscription. In 1896, Boyd moved to Nashville to establish the National Baptist Publishing Board with the goal of providing black Baptists with religious printings, primarily periodicals and Sunday School materials. By 1906 it was the largest African American publishing company in the United States. In 1904 Boyd became one of the founders and first president of the One-Cent Savings and Trust Company Bank, which expressly intended to serve the financial needs of African American depositors. The bank is still in business today as the Citizens Savings Bank and Trust Company.
