1. Fort Harmar Marker
Inscription. Fort Harmar, a military outpost, was built on the west side of the Muskingum River, in 1785. Pentagonal in shape, it enclosed 3/4 of an acre with 12' to 15' timber walls. Inside were soldier barracks and officer quarters with gardens and orchards outside. Keel and flat boats were the primary modes of transportation. The army moved to Fort Washington in 1790 and the Fort became temporary residence for settlers until 1795. It was gradually dismantled with no visible reminders now of its former importance to the Northwest Territory.

Erected by American Legion Post 64 / Marietta Kiwanis Club.
