Inscription. "...in the year 1891 there was not, I repeat, a single acre of forest under forestry anywhere in the United States...My work in Biltmore Forest began February 3, 1892...Thus Biltmore Forest became the beginning of practical Forestry in America."

Gifford Pinchot, first American born forester lured by George Vanderbilt to manage his Biltmore Forest in February, 1892.
