1. Smyth County Courthouse Marker
Inscription. The first courthouse was built in 1834 in the new town of Marion, the site of the county seat. The second courthouse, the one in use today, was completed in 1905 and first remodeled in 1974. Monuments on the lawn include a 1903 tribute to Smyth County Confederate dead, to those killed in action during WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam, and to Smyth County's Revolutionary War soldiers.
