1. Sherwood Anderson Marker
Inscription. A prominent American writer, poet, playwright, political journalist and newspaper editor, Anderson authored 27 works including “Winesburg, Ohio”. In the 1920s, author and social critic H.L. Mencken called him “America's most distinctive novelist.” Anderson published two newspapers here in Marion and is buried in Round Hill Cemetery.

Although he lived near Troutdale in neighboring Grayson County, he bought and published two weekly newspapers in Marion: The Marion Democrat and the Smyth County News.
