1. Fain Law Office Marker
Inscription. This little building originally stood across the street and served as the office of attorney John Fain in the late 1800s. Some Blountville residents remember it as the office of attorney Homer Smith in the second quarter of the 20th century. It was saved from demolition by Virginia Caldwell, who relocated it after 1948.

Regarding Fain Law Office. Fain (1835-1898), a Sullivan County native, was in Texas when he joined Martin's Texas Rangers Cavalry to fight for the Confederacy. He remained in Texas for a few years after the Civil War but then returned to Tennessee, where he became a lawyer. He was Attorney General for the First Judicial Circuit of Tennessee from 1878 to 1886, when he was elected to the state legislature.
