1. Lincoln Heights School Marker
Inscription.
Built in 1924 as a six teacher brick Rosenwald School and served as a “Haven of Knowledge” for colored students in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Wilkes and Yadkin Counties. The original structure was an H-shape design. The Julius Rosenwald Fund provided monies toward construction, addition monetary contributions were from the state and local governments as well as contributions from the colored citizens. The School (sic) was enlarged to fourteen classrooms between 1926 and 1950.
