Leon County proudly recognizes the significant contributions
made by local citizens during World War II.
Dale Mabry Field was an important flight training base
for fighter aircraft.
The famed Tuskegee Airmen trained here,
as well as Chinese and French Cadets.
A French monument located near the American Legion Post
at Lake Ella acknowledges Florida’s contributions
to the World War II Allied victory.
World War II veterans are memorialized by the “Poppies”
bronze piece by sculpture W. Stanley Proctor
prominently located in front of the
Leon County Courthouse.
