Florida World War II Memorial
Witham Field
Named in honor of Homer Witham, the first Martin County
resident killed in action in World War II. The field was used
for night flights for radar system testing in conjunction with
Camp Murphy Radar School.
Camp Murphy
World War II Signal Corps Base served as a radar school for
U.S. servicemen, now Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
House of Refuge
U.S. Coast Guard Lifeboat Station. Gilbert’s Bar Tower was used for
regular watches by the Coast Guard. Coast guardsmen patrolled
the beach on horseback looking for enemy ships and submarines.
