Regarding Craig Cottage / Knitters Rest. David J. Craig was a founder of the Blowing Rock Development Co., which purchased the Green Park Hotel and 365 surrounding acres in 1913. He also operated a stage line between Lenoir and Blowing Rock. William Nebel, who emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1905, established The Nebel Knitting Company in Charlotte, N.C. in 1923. A knitter since he was 12, Nebel held at least sixteen structural and design patents.
