Santa Fe Railway 1887-1994
The Santa Fe Railway was one of the largest railroads in the United States. The depot was first built in 1887 and made of wood. The current building was completed in 1926 and closed in 1972.

San Gabriel Valley Rapid Transit 1888-1942
It operated independently and was purchased by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1894. After the arrival of the Pacific Electric railway, rapid transit was used to convey only freight.

Street Railways 1887-1912
Two mule drawn street railways were implemented to link the Santa Fe Depot with downtown and residential Monrovia. To return to the station, the mule would be loaded onto the flatcar and downhill gravity would do the rest.

Pacific Electric Railway 1903-1951
The Pacific Electric railway extended a line to provide frequent and regular transportation to Los Angeles. This allowed Monrovians to work in the city and live in the suburbs. This railway helped stimulate the recovery from the long depression of the 1890s.

Metro Gold Line 2016
The Gold Line Extension recaptures the past as it opens a transportation hub to Azusa to the east and Los Angeles to the west.

Erected by City of Monrovia.
