Capitol Hill in Tallahassee in Leon County, Florida — The American South (South Atlantic)
Glades County
Florida World War II Memorial
Glades County has a very patriotic history in the defense of our
county, particularly in WWII.
Glades County was represented in all branches of the military
between 1941 and 1945.
Many returned home, some did not.
Those who did return home saw their lives changed forever.
Being an agricultural county,
we supplied the war effort with vegetables, beef, pork and sugar.
We had many Blue Star Mothers and some Gold Star Mothers.
Our cemetery has more veterans from WW II than any other war.
Though our contributions were small in comparison to many
larger counties, we are proud to have done our part
and will again if the occasion arises.
Erected 2005 by The State of Florida.
