Wakulla County

Wakulla County proudly recognizes the struggles and sacrifices
of our WW II veterans. They brought freedom to much of the world
and in doing so helped make this country safer and more secure.
History will remember their sacrifices. We value their commitment to freedom, courage, and duty.

Wakulla County is proud of the part it played leading up to the
Normandy Invasion on D-Day, Wakulla Springs Park was used by the
Army to train over a quarter of a million soldiers for amphibious
warfare. It was also a major rest and relaxation location for
soldiers stationed at Camp Gordon Johnston in Franklin County.

A training film on amphibious warfare produced at the Wakulla
Springs Park won an academy award for the best training film in
the spring of 1944.

Our Forrest industry supplied turpentine and wood for the war
Effort.
