Port Washington, settled in 1827 by John Knight and was a major stop on the canal between Cleveland and Portsmouth. Farmers brought produce from fifty miles around for shipment via the old Port Washington Road. On the tails of the canal and its prosperity came the railroad. Midway into the nineteenth century, the Pennsylvania Railroad was playing a major function in town.(Submitted on November 26, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)The large three-story brick town hall was built in 1878.
