1. Decatur The County Seat Marker

Inscription. Decatur was selected as a County Seat on May 18, 1836. The founders were Samuel Rugg and Thomas Johnson. Decatur was surveyed by Jacob Hofer. The land for the site was owned by Thomas Johnson. Decatur was selected by a special county board comprised of: William Johnson, Joseph M. McMaken, William Stewart, and Robert Hood. Thomas Johnson donated the Courthouse Square and several church sites.

Erected 1976 by Decatur Optimist Club.
