Liberaal staatsman en opsteller van de eerste Grondwet in 1814. Hij zat, samen met Van Limburg Stirum, in het Driemanschap dat de komst van het Koninkrijk Holland voorbereidde. Onvermoeibaar strijder voor de vrije handel, teggen de ideeen van koning Willem I in.
Liberal statesman and drafter of the first Constitution in 1814. He was, together with Van Limburg Stirum, in the 'Driemanschap' (Triumvirate) that prepared the arrival of the Kingdom of Holland. Tireless fighter for free trade, against the ideas of King Willem I.
