1. Azalea Marker
Inscription. At the northern gateway to Takoma Park, Azalea is a bouquet of six different blossoms representing the six unique wards of the city. A map of Takoma Park is outlined by the negative space between the flowers with stainless steel lines defining the wards. The silver arrow shape at eye-level points to where the viewer stands in relation to the city. Takoma Park's history in the early twentieth century as a summer destination for citizens of Washington, D.C. is symbolized by the railroad rails that were used to construct the stems.
