Amsterdam, 24 april 1916 - Waalsdorpervlakte, 8 oktober 1941

Ter dood veroordeeld was Arie (Addie) Addicks 'wegens het plegen van een daad van geweld jegens een lid van de Duitsche politie en wegens het verboden bezit van wapens'. Zo stond na zijn executie door de hele stad op plakkaten te lezen. Addicks was assistent-boekhouder van beroep en leider bij de Rode Valken, een socialistische jongerenbeweging. Tijdens de bezetting werd hij actief voor de illegale krant Het Parool. Bij zijn arrestatie in het huis van zijn ouders werd zijn vader Martinus doodgeschoten en raakte zijn moeder Jaapje gewond. Zij zette daarna haar verzetswerk voort. Addicks' gratieverzoek - "Om godswil en om mijn moeder, laat mij leven” - werd afgewezen en hij werd gefusilleerd. Zijn lichaam is nooit teruggevonden. Paroolmedewerkers houden jaarlijks op de Eerebegraafplaats in Bloemendaal een plechtigheid bij een steen waar zijn naam op staat.

Addicks was an assistant bookkeeper by profession and a leader in the Red Falcons, a socialist youth movement. During the occupation he became active for the illegal newspaper Het Parool. When he was arrested at his parents' house, his father Martinus was shot and his mother Jaapje was injured. She then continued her resistance work. Addicks' request for pardon - "For God's sake and for my mother's sake, let me live" - was rejected and he was shot. His body has never been found. Every year, Parool Workers hold a ceremony at the Memorial Cemetery in Bloemendaal at a stone with his name on it.
